Objective: You will create 3 portraits of the night or low light environments based on the NOIR cinematic style. What are some of the NOIR city themes & Settings prevalent in film and photography? Abandoned streets, warehouses, fog and smoke, the city as foreboding monster, sci-fi mystery.

Required:
- Shoot and process in Lightroom,.
- We will be using Photoshop adjustment layers, retouching if necessary and burning dodging to create a non destructive and efficient workflow.
- Digital contact sheets of 100-150 for the first set of contact sheets. Peer review and sit down with me for image review. You will need 3 completely different image attempts for this assignment.
- There will be an additional reshoot and peer review. Please check the dateline on Canvas for due dates.
- Both mounted prints and digital files will be used in grading.
- Black and white and color are both permitted.
What is film noir?
1. It is a genre of cinematic film that often uses used a loner detective theme and a dangerous femme fatale. And quite often there was a scandalous murder at the center of the plot. The lighting was a low key lighting- strong use of shadows and light.
Directors and films include: Lynch, Wilder, Hitchcock, Welles, Scorsese, Burton. American Beauty, Blue Velvet, Dark City, Matrix, Double Indemnity, Touch of Evil, Night of the Hunter, The Birds, Mildred Pierce.
