Attaching a File to a Discussion

If your instructor allows, you can attach a file to a discussion reply using the attachment icon. Review the Canvas Shorts How to attach a file to a discussion video [00:58] for a quick demo.

Attaching a File Using the Attach File Link

      1. Select the Attach link with the paperclip icon in the bottom-right of the Rich Content Editor.
      2. Select "Choose File".
      3. Browse your personal files on the computer and select the file or files you wish to attach.
      4. Once you find the correct file, double click to select the file or click Open/Choose to upload the file to the discussion reply.

 

Attaching a File from Google or Office 365

If your instructor has enabled Microsoft Office 365 or Google Apps, you can add a hyperlink to your files. Keep in mind files that are linked in the Rich Content Editor will display the exact name of the file, so make sure your file names are correct before linking a file.

      1. Select the Apps icon from the toolbar. Alternatively, from the menubar, click Tools, then the Apps option, and select the View all Option.
      2. Select Google Apps or Microsoft Office 365.
      3. Locate the file you want to link and click the checkbox next to the name of the file. Then click the Attach File button.
      4. Continue writing your discussion response if necessarily, and then select Reply.
