In the Tags Panel

Images are classified as <Figure> tags. The image below shows a highlighted <Figure> tag that has been expanded to reveal the tag's contents. The content is the image's size dimensions, "Image (13): w:545 h:261".

If the PDF is in its Final Form: Run the Make Accessible Action Wizard

The Make Accessible Action Wizard has a step to provide automatic tagging. The image will be automatically tagged. Run the Accessibility Checker to add alt text to the image.

Tagging an Image via the Make Accessible Action Wizard

If An Image Is Added After Running the Make Accessible Wizard & Accessibility Checker

At this point in the process, the PDF already has tags (presumably in the proper reading order). If this is the case, follow the instructions below.

Image is not tagged, and has an error message, "the selection was not found in the Tags Panel."

Use the Accessibility Checker's Reading Order

  1. In the Tools Pane > Select Accessibility
  2. Select Reading Order
  3. Reading Order Dialog Box will appear.
  4. Apply the following settings in the Reading Order Dialog Box:
    • Select Structure types
    • This is optional: Check Show table cells
    • Uncheck Display like elements in a single block
    • Check Show tables and figures
  5. Watch the video below for the next steps!

Notice in the screenshot above that each element, whether it be text or an image (except for the serpent image that was added after the document was tagged), has a designated structure type. The image of the dog sitting has a "Fig" tag. However, the serpent has none. If the Tags Panel was revealed, the serpent image would not have an associated tag.
