What to Expect in Zoom

The Tutorial Center is accessible online through Zoom. For instructions on how to access the Tutorial Center through Zoom, see Download Joining a Zoom Meeting by I.D. .docx

Inside the Tutorial Center Zoom Meeting Room: Welcome to Our Lobby!

  • Once you have accessed the Tutorial Center’s Zoom meeting, you will find yourself transported to the virtual main lobby of the Zoom meeting.

Who do you see in the lobby?

  • In the Tutorial Center’s virtual lobby, you will see one or several of our center’s coordinators.

What will you be asked?

  • The Tutorial Center’s coordinator(s) will greet you and ask for your name, student ID number, and what subject you are coming to the center for, either that day or at a later date (if you are making an appointment with a Writing tutor).
  • Once the above information has been provided to the coordinator(s), they will transfer you to a “breakout” room with a tutor depending on the subject (either a STEM or Writing tutor).

What will you need?

  • While preparing for your online tutoring session/appointment, it is important to have things like your prompt or any draft(s) you are working on

 TIPS:

  • Make sure that your desktop, smartphone, laptop, or other electronic device has either video, audio, or texting capability.
  • Feel free to take notes either virtually on your device or on paper during the session.

How can you share assignments, materials, or your screen with the tutor?

  • Zoom will allow you to share your screen with the tutor you are meeting with. This is a preferred method of showing tutors the assignment you are working on and any materials from the class that are relevant to your assignment see Zoom Assistance
  • Screen sharing on Zoom with a tutor will allow them to annotate your document on a shared screen.
  • You can also email the tutor documents for them to leave comments on as you attend your appointment or work with a tutor.

How do you leave the session or appointment after it is finished?

  • At the conclusion of your session or appointment with a tutor on Zoom, you are free to leave the Breakout room by clicking the red lettered button on the bottom right of the Zoom screen entitled, “Return to Main Session”.
  • Once you click this button you will automatically be transported back into the Tutorial Center’s main Zoom lobby.
  • Our coordinators will once again greet you, ask you if you need anything else or would like to schedule any appointments in the future, and then you are welcome to leave the Zoom meeting completely.
  • To leave the Tutorial Center’s Zoom lobby, click the red lettered button on the bottom right of the screen entitled “Leave Meeting”.
  • After you have clicked this button, you will be logged out of the Tutorial Center’s Zoom meeting entirely.

TIPS:

  • When leaving a meeting with a tutor, be sure to have your microphone on when returning to the Tutorial Center’s main Zoom lobby or type into the Chat to communicate with the Center’s coordinators.
  • You are not required to have your video feed on when communicating with the Center’s coordinators or tutors.
